With over 15 years of experience as a mental health provider, Alyssa holds a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from St. Mary's University and is licensed in Colorado, Texas, and Florida. In addition to being an LPC-S, Alyssa is a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, Level 2 Reiki practitioner, Service Animal Handler, and has specialized training in Sand Tray Therapy, psychedelic-assisted therapy, somatic abolitionism, and Chicana/Chicano/Chicanx cultural competence. Her dedication to ongoing learning reflects her commitment to being a catalyst for change and good ancestor.
Currently, Alyssa serves as the Clinical Director of Tree of Life Counseling Center and is the Founder and President of the nonprofit Root of It Foundation. She is passionate about decolonizing mental health services, honoring ancestral healing, and offering experiential and integration sessions for Ketamine Assisted Therapy.
As a member of a mental health rapid response team and supporter of the IMatter program in Colorado, Alyssa collaborates with community organizations to improve access to care. Her career is focused on advocating for clients facing oppression, trauma, and intergenerational challenges, drawing on her own experiences as a brown-bodied Chicana to navigate systemic barriers.
Alyssa’s work in San Antonio treatment facilities underscored the importance of community in the healing process, a principle that guided the founding of Tree of Life Counseling Center. At TLCC, Alyssa provides therapeutic services, supervision, consultations, and training sessions, all aimed at fostering collective liberation and community empowerment.
