Bio
Hi! It's so nice to meet you. My name is Joie (pronounced like Joey), my pronouns are she/her/hers, and I am a peer recovery coach currently based in Union County, NJ.
Though I have worked in traditional corners of the mental health and wellness field for a number of years now, I am growing to understand more and more that our current Western medical model of mental healthcare isn't working; not for me, and certainly not for the people I serve.
Through my own lived experience and a shitload of trauma work with my own coach, I am working to unlearn what I have internalized after so many years. My goal as a practitioner is to meet whomever I connect with through a kind, compassionate, and peer-focused lens. I hope that, by unlearning together, we can slowly change this universe for the better.
Areas of focus
I am Internal Family Systems Therapy trained and am a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist in the state of New Jersey. I am also certified in Reiki as a Level 1 practitioner. Additionally, I am currently completing a training with Equitable Care Certification to provide comprehensive mental health services for sex working individuals.
In my own personal journey, I have engaged in every treatment under the sun from traditional models like Cognitive Processing Therapy and DBT to somatic approaches such as EMDR.
Professionally, I have experience working with neurodivergence, chronic suicidality, self-harm, complex trauma, substance use, high-level athletics, eating disorders, and homelessness.
Additionally, I have lived experiences as a Chinese-American adoptee with neurodivergence, complex trauma, eating disorders, self-harm, and chronic suicidality. That being said, I do not believe these labels define who I am. Labels should not define anyone.
